The Valley View STEAM Fair is coming in March…
On Tuesday, March 31, Valley View will be hosting its annual science fair. The STEAM Fair provides a forum for our students to engage with science and technology in a hands-on way and to display their hard work and talent. The students get the opportunity to showcase their project in an interview with a scientist who will provide them feedback. This year, for the first time, we are also adding an option for students to display science-themed art projects. All of our 3rd and 5th graders are required to complete projects as part of our curriculum, but the fair is open to all grades. The PTA provides science fair boards to all students that are participating. Families are welcome to come see the projects at the STEAM Fair Expo in the evening (more details coming soon).
Project boards will be distributed as soon as they arrive but students can start planning and working on their projects anytime. Projects are due on Monday, March 30th.
The PUSD Science Fair booklet .pdf can be found here in both English and Spanish.
For project ideas, there are a lot of great websites out there to provide ideas and guidance.. Here are just a few...or let your student use their imagination and inspiration to come up with their own idea.
Volunteers needed!!!
Parents and family members with a background in science, engineering, tech, or mathematics are highly encouraged to volunteer to be an interviewer from 8-12:30 on 3/31. Morning refreshments and lunch will be provided. Please consider volunteering, even if you can only commit to part of the day. Interviewing entails filling out a rubric form and giving feedback to the students. We do not award ribbons but choose to focus on engaging all the students with science. Prior experience is not required. We anticipate the need for a minimum of 20-25 judges.
Like all of our Valley View events, it takes the coordinated effort and hardwork of many volunteers. Since so many of the projects are coming from 3rd and 5th graders, each of the 3rd and 5th grade classes will be asked to provide a number of volunteers for the fair.
Please keep an eye out for the sign-up sheet.
